It's That Time Again

It is been a tradition of mine for many years to write a blog post on New Year's Eve reminiscing over the past year. Though as the years have passed I have gotten worse with my regular journal writing, I have stuck pretty well to this New Year's Eve thing.

This year has brought many struggles, just like any other year and for anyone else, I am sure. But I am happy to report a few of my highlights from 2011:

- I started and completed most of my education classes and made amazing teacher friends
- I worked as a night shift supervisor at the Testing Center, on the best shifts ever
- Megan and Josh got married! & I helped plan their reception here in Virginia
- I returned to the daycare I worked at in high school to work for the summer, and the kids were awesome
- I moved to a new apartment with my own room and rockin' roommates
- I learned to turn to the Lord and fight for my rights with my TESOL minor
- The whole family was together for Chrismas and New Year's
- Kurt came back from his mission!!!!

The years just keep getting better and better though, so bring 'em on! 2012, we got this!

One One One One

Every New Year's Eve I write a journal entry, no matter how lackadaisical I've been about them in the past year. (Even this year, when I've been a super slug.) I usually write them into the same journal, but this year I will grace the internet with my annual thoughts instead.

I feel as if this year is the first one I have actually looked back on my past self with an objective eye. I've realized many things I've done aren't that great, but some aren't that bad. I've said in recent years that I feel grown up or old for the first time, but this year I truly feel like I grew up. That maybe I deserve to be named a year older. Even though I didn't take many new steps, I think looking back on my old steps has taught me new things.

I want to make 2011 my own year, but I don't know if I'm brave enough to do that yet. I want to be the leading lady in my own life instead of the best friend (thanks, The Holiday). I want to act instead of react, and stick with my decisions. Let's hope I can gather the gumption before 2011 gets too far along.

Today, I Saw You

I can't remember how I spent all my other New Year's Days, but I think today went exceptionally well. Mom and I saw Twilight, we shopped but I used wise restraint (which, guess what, my sister just broke one of the things I wisely bought today, of course), we had a roast for dinner, and I saw Kyle & Greg. For everyone else, I planned to hang out with them doing an activity, but we knew that just catching up with each other would be enough for the three of us. And sure enough, we talked for an hour past the time they were supposed to leave. Well, mostly Kyle talked, but I loved listening. He apologized later, but that's exactly what I missed about him. We had a hard time at the end of my senior year, but I think the time apart has done us both some good, and we've both become wiser in hindsight. It was SO GOOD to see them again... it was just like old times, when it was always the three of us. Golly, they're such awesome people. Somehow I always find the awesome ones. I guess somebody loves me up there =). Thank goodness.
