DAY 16 - Aunt Lesli

What's Up Today: Someone That's Not in My State

Dear Aunt Lesli,

You are the bomb. Whenever I talk about you I always refer to you as my "cool aunt." Not that my other aunts aren't cool, you're just the best. I may not agree with some of your ideas, but I totally respect you for how you discuss them. You don't put anyone down or act mean just for the sake of being mean. You care about people and only want the best for them.

You create an atmosphere of total comfort and safety. I know that I can talk about anything with you and you will treat me as an intelligent, sane adult. I remember when I was younger you would take us on shopping trips, and I always felt so bad saying I didn't like something you picked out for me. But you taught me that it was ok to be my own person and share my own opinions. Even though it's still hard for me, I now feel much more comfortable saying, "no" or "that's not me." Because you helped me be brave enough to be who I am.

Thank you for making me feel special. Anything I say to you, you listen to with pleasure. You make sure to spend time with each of your nieces and nephews. Even though you are far away, I always know of your love for me. I am so grateful for the life-lasting influence you have had on my life by showing me how to love others, how to love life, and how to love me.

Love,
Hilary
